Conference filming vs the AV company: what's the difference?
Your AV company runs the room — screens, sound and the delegate experience on the day. A conference filming team captures your event for everything that comes after it: speaker videos, highlights, social content and marketing. You usually need both.
The short answer
The AV company is responsible for the room — the screens, the sound system and the live experience for the people sitting in front of the stage. A conference filming team is responsible for capturing the event so it keeps delivering value afterwards: edited speaker videos, highlight films, social content and marketing assets. They're different jobs, and on most conferences you want both.
What the AV team does
Your AV provider makes the event work in real time. They run the PA, manage microphones, drive the presentation screens and keep the show on schedule. Their focus — rightly — is the delegates in the room and a smooth live event.
What a conference filming team does
We're there for the audiences who aren't in the room, and for the life of the content after the day:
- Broadcast-quality recordings of every session, framed and lit for video rather than for the back row.
- Clean audio taken as a direct feed from the AV desk.
- Slide sync, graphics and branding applied in the edit.
- Highlight films, interviews and social content that turn the day into marketing.
How the two work together
Good filming depends on good AV, and we work hand in glove with your AV team. We take an audio feed and a copy of the on-screen presentation from them, then position our cameras to capture the event without getting in the way of the room. It's a collaboration, not a competition.
Do you need both?
Almost always, yes. The AV company makes sure the event happens; the filming team makes sure it lasts. If your goal is content — recordings to sell, clips to post, a reel to promote next year — that's our job, not the AV provider's.
